Abstract

An elongated structural beam element having at its ends interfitting means whereby adjacent similar elements may be connected end-to-end to form a beam, has a hollow cross section of which two diverging sides of unequal length are extended to form fins 6 and 8 of which the fin 6 is the longest, those ends of the said sides remote from the fins being connected together either directly to form a generally triangular section as in Fig. 2 or through an intermediate part 24, Fig. 8 to form a generally quadrilateral section, there being reinforcement receiving holes 4, 5, Fig. 2 or 26, Fig. 8 at least at the junctions with the diverging sides of an interconnecting wall part, for example 21, Fig. 8, which closes the cross section. Panel attachment means on both fins are adapted to receive panels 10, Fig. 2 or 25, Fig. 8 which laterally interconnect adjacent beams when the beams, in use, are placed side-by-side. Reinforcement passed through the holes 4, 5 or 26 of an end-to-end series of elements forming a composite beam is anchored at the terminal ends of the first and last elements and is post tensioned. A roof structure is formed by an assembly of such composite beams placed side by side and connected by panels 10 or 25 of flexible material sealed to the panel attachment means. Additional reinforcement receiving holes may be provided in the lower part of the section as at 3, Fig. 2.
