Abstract

994,046. Arched roofs. H. TOTTENHAM, and C. HUME. June 1, 1961 [June 3, 1960], No. 19689/60. Heading E1V. A roof, arched in at least one direction, comprises bars 3I interlocked to form a lattice by fitting the keys 11, 12 of two bars into the aperture 7 of an intermediate transverse bar. The surfaces 13, 14 of the keys and the end faces of the bars are oppositely inclined at each end of the bars providing the arcuate effect. Arched trusses 1, 2 and side members 42 made of beams of laminated construction provide a framework and at their junctions are sheathed in metal straps and bolted to angle girders projecting up from supporting columns of reinforced concrete. The roof which may project beyond the trusses 1, 2, may be panelled on its inside and on its outer face is covered with two layers of tongued and grooved boards.
