Abstract

718,028. Turbines. OFFEN, A. Dec. 11, 1952 [Sept. 11, 1951], No. 21426/51. Class 110(3) [Also in Group XXIII] The tool of a lapping machine is supported between a pair of vertically-aligned spindles each mounted in anti-friction bearings 36 and fitted with an airturbine rotor 20. The rotor co-operates with a stator 21 to which compressed air is supplied through a pipe 27 and an annular space 31 while exhaust air passes down the space containing the bearing 36 and through a second annular space 41 to a discharge pipe 43. Compressed air and oil mist is blown into the turbine housing through a tube 74. To stop the rotor quickly, the air supply is directed on to the rear surfaces of the rotor blades by rotating a valve plate 22 in relation to the stator 21. The valve plate is manually operated through a mechanical linkage and has two ports 33 to co-operate with oppositely inclined nozzles 34, 35 in the stator.
