626,268. Compressed-air bearings. PENGELLY, C. G., WILKINSON, D. F., LEFROY, F. E., and LEES, D. M. Aug. 21, 1947, No. 23188. [Class 12 (i)] A bearing in which the shaft journal is supported on and lubricated by an annular film of compressed air, has at one end a porous metal bush e closely fitting the journal to support the latter when the air pressure ceases. As shown, for the shaft bearing of a compressed air-driven turbine, the bearing a has a clearance fit with the shaft journal and has passages c and nozzles b for the supply of compressed air.
