Abstract

715,558. Induction furnaces. ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AKTIEBOLAGET. June 11, 1953 [June 16, 1952], No. 15065/52. Class 39 (3) A low frequency induction furnace without a closed iron circuit for treating metal at least partly molten so as to decrease the violence of the stirring effect near the top of the melting furnace comprises a crucible with an induction coil 2 surrounding the crucible 1 and having a number of ampere turns per unit of coil height at its central portion which is at least 1.5 times the corresponding number at the top portion of the winding. A current with a frequency of about 25 to 75 cycles a second is connected to the coil in which the number of ampere turns at the top part of the crucible is constant along a portion adjacent the surface of the molten metal, increases below this part to a maximum number and then decreases at the lower part of the furnace. The winding of the coil may be varied continuously or step by step, or different currents may be fed to different parts of the coil. A laminated iron shell 3 surrounds the coil 2, and the line 5 shows the relative value of the ampere turns at different heights of the crucible. Specification 648,027, is referred to.
