Abstract

714,880. Grenade fuzes. MANZOLINI, E. April 10, 1952 [Jan. 29, 1952], No. 9200/52. Class 9(1) A time fuze for grenades or illuminating and smoke bombs has a spring striker 23 normally unstressed pivotally moved into alignment with a percussion cap 4, with spring stressed, by a slidable hand or inertia operated safety pull strip 3 which retains the grip safety lever 6 and blocks the striker. The stressed spring is connected with the grip lever 6, pivoted to casing 18 at 9, by a lever 19 on pivot 9 pressing against an intermediate lever 7 pivoted at 30 the arrangement being such that the system of levers reduces stress on the grip lever 6. The pull strip 3 has a recess engaging a projection 25 on the slidable striker casing 24 to impart pivotal movement to the striker and compress the striker spring through the medium of part 28 of a hook pivoted to the striker casing at 27 the part 29 of the hook being retained by the lever 7. On throwing, the outward swinging of the grip lever 6 releases the lever 7 and hook 5 to fire the percussion cap. The parts in casing 18 may either fly clear before the explosion or be retained as in the modification, Fig. 3, by a stop 12 to add to the fragmentation. The bomb casing, Fig.. 3, may have a spiral fragmental wall 1. The cap 4, time combustion fuze 14, and detonator 16, may be arranged in an air tight gaine.
