Abstract

125,436. Chamier, F. W. July 22, 1916. Projectile fuses.- Consists in providing grenades or trench mortar bombs with a pivoted weighted safety member, which is so constructed and arranged that it renders the firing mechanism inoperative until after the projectile has been thrown and becomes automatically detached during flight. Fig. 3 shows a grenade in which the striker of a time-fuse is normally held up by a pivoted safetylever G. Overlying this lever is a weighted arm A, the end opposite to the weight B being formed with a clip C which pivotally engages with a fixed pin E. When the grenade is thrown, the arm A turns outwardly about the pivot E, eventually, at a point depending on the mass of the weight B, becoming detached and allowing the lever G to fly outwards in the usual manner. The application of a weighted arm such as A to a percussion grenade of the kind described in Specification 125,100 is described.
