Abstract

126,335. Midgley, A. H., and Vandervell, C. A. Dec. 20, 1916. Projectile fuses.-Relates to percussion fuses in which a safety stop is interposed between the striker and the percussion cap, and is retained by an external device such as a tape. According to this invention, (1) the retaining means consists of a fiat spring m attached to a tape k, Figs. 2 and 5, or of a spring only, the end of the spring being attached to an inertia pin n, adapted to release the retaining means by setting back on discharge from a gun, (2) the end of the tape is pivotally attached to the safety-stop f, (3) a sleeve t, Fig. 3, is mounted on the fuse-body and has a vane s which rotates the sleeve during the projectile's flight, thereby covering the hole t<1> left by the withdrawal of the stop f, the vane also being preferably adapted to assist in throwing off the safety-stop. As shown in Fig. 2, the pin n is mounted in a loose bracket o, kept in position by the tape, the pin n having a cross-pin n<1> which supports it by engaging with hooked projections q<2> on the bracket. A safety-pin r normally passes through the pin n. Specifications 112,633 and 125,399 are referred to.
