Abstract

102,279. Reincke, H. A., and Macartney, W.C. Jan. 15, 1916. Projectiles; projectile fuses.-Relates to percussion fuses for handgrenades of the kind in which a striker is normally held away from the detonator by a spring. According to this invention, the grenade comprises, in combination, a striker G held away from the cletonator D by a spring F until the moment of irnpact, and a stem J which passes through an outwardly flared hole in the grenade, bears against the end of the striker so as to drive it in when tilted, and carries one or more members such as spring arms L extending laterally beyond the body of the grenade. In place of members such as L, an inertia weight may be provided. The object of the invention is to ensure explosion of the projectile, whatever the direction of impact. A detachable cover confines the arms L before use. A stop P, secured to a strip N which flies off when the projectile is thrown, acts as a safety device. The detonator is contained in an tube screwed into a base-plug E.
