Abstract

3619. Baker, F. E. March 6. Projectiles ; projectile fuses.-Relates to grenades comprising a time-fuse ignited . by a percussion cap struck by a spring hammer controlled by an external lever, which is released when the grenade is thrown, and consists mainly in the combination with a body having detachable end covers and a partition plate of two diametrically opposite tubes and a central bolt for securing the partition plate and the tubes in position. As shown, the grenade comprises a cylindrical grooved body a with screwed ends b, c and internal tubes f, g attached to a partition plate d, which is secured within the grenade by a central bolt e screwed to the end b. The tube f contains the detonator (not shown); the tube g contains the percussion-cap holder h and the spring hammer j ; the end c holds the time-fuse k in place ; the other end b has a projecting collar m, which protects the external lever l and the outer end of the hammer, and also carries a ring n, which passes through a slot in the collar m and bears against a bend o in the lever to lock it at safe. In use, the grenade is grasped in the hand, the ring n removed, and the grenade thrown.
