Abstract

Classes 120(2) and 120(3) A means for winding and after treating fresh-spun artificial silk comprises two axially telescopable parts, of which the outside one is a double-flanged winding bobbin and the inside one serves as a bobbin holder during the winding operation, the said bobbin holder having radially spreadable flat bars extending through longitudinal slots in the winding bobbin, which bars are spreadable by means of incline faces thereon engaged by an axially slidable member provided with conical surfaces and is characterized in that the axially slidable coned member is acted upon by a main helical compression spring to effect the radial spreading of the bars, said main spring being itself acted upon by a bush slidable upon a supporting axle for the bobbin, and said bush being adapted to be held in lock ing position by a second compression spring weaker than the main spring. As shown the bobbin comprises two flanges 1 and 2 interconnected by a longitudinally slotted barrel 3. The holder comprises a plurality of movable bars 4 which can be made to protrude through the slots in barrel 3 by the axial movement of a member 16 on an axle pin 15 in one with a hub 6 which, by means of a set screw 8, can be mounted on a driving spindle 7 of a winding frame. When the member 16 is pushed towards hub 6 the wedge faces 12a and 13a engage the bars 4 and push them radially outwards and when it is pulled in the opposite direction the wedge faces 14a engage the bars 4 and pull them inwards. Movement of member 116 is controlled by a knob 17, through a bush 21 and pin 18 with intervening springs 26 and 30. A ball 22 which engages a recess in the axle-pin 15 locks the bush 21 in its "in" position, thus keeping the bars 4 in their "out" position whilst "winding" takes place. When winding is completed the knob 17 is pulled " outwardly," thus releasing the ball 22 and therefore the bush 21 which moves "outward" under the action of the springs, thus withdrawing the bars 4 and leaving a package of artificial silk loosely wound on the bobbin, which can then be removed from the holder and the package subjected to any after-treatment necessary.
