881,872. Spinning yarns, spindle arrangement. DEERING MILLIKEN RESEARCH CORPORATION. Feb. 14, 1958 [Feb. 14, 1957], No. 4979/58. Class 120(2) A bobbin spindle arrangement comprises a rotatable mandrel 11 with a rotatable but axially fixed shaft 67 passing through it, a nut 65 threaded on the shaft 67 and prevented by a guide from rotating, a lever 75 on the shaft 67 at the opposite ends of the mandrel from the nut 65, an axially movable brake disc 53 between the nut 65 and the mandrel 11 and a spring 59 between the nut 65 and the brake disc 53. Rotation of shaft 67 by handle 75 adjusts the pressure exerted by spring 59 through the brake disc 53 on the mandrel 11 and thus adjusts the drag on bobbin B. The pressure is exerted by spring 59 through the medium of a universal joint coupling 63 so as to give even pressure. Bobbin retention means are preferable provided and comprises a plurality of lock dogs 103 pivotally mounted on a ring 105 and resiliently biased, so as to engage the outer end flange of bobbin B, by spring 113 acting on ring 115 which engages the dogs 103. The dogs 103 can be moved to release the bobbin by a dog release 123 which is actuated by cam lever 75 which is pivoted at 77 for that purpose. The whole assembly is mounted on rail 39 by a three-point mounting, each point comprising a jack screw 41.
