[Also in Groups XXIV and XXV] The screwed rod 3 for use in an automatic brake rod adjusting device is engaged by a split nut comprising several, e.g. four, parts 1 held together by at least one annular spiral spring 2 engaging a nut groove 4 whose width is greater than the spring diameter and whose base 5 is inclined to the nut axis. Should one of the parts 1 become axially displaced relatively to the other parts the wide groove prevents damage to the spring, while the inclined base ensures that the spring tends to slide towards the deepest part of the groove and thus tends to bring all the nut parts into engagement with the screw groove.
