Abstract

558,302. Nuts. HOLLIS, A. C., and CLOUDSLEY, J. L. July 22, 1942, No. 10217. [Class 89 (i)T Quick action nuts particularly for use in clamping work B between jig plates A, C, comprise an expansible threaded member preferably in two parts 3a, 3b with a spring ring 5, an outer member 2 flanged at 2a to retain the parts 3a, 3b, and turned in at 2b to limit the movement of a piston member 4 bevelled to engage a corresponding chamfer on the parts 3a, 3b and provided with an operating knob 4b. Pins 2c on the member 2 engage slots 4a in the member 4 and recesses 3c. The nut is placed over the screw 1 and the member 4 is depressed to close the nut after which a part turn effects tightening. In a modification the slots 4a are of bayonet form to prevent the member 4 from releasing by axial movement only, under the influence of vibration.
