Abstract

564,775. Self-locking nuts. DUNDAS, Ltd., R. K., KING, R. D., and WOOD, N. F. May 13, 1943, No. 7636. [Class 89 (i)] A stiff or self-locking nut has at one end two or more separate screw-threaded elements, and means for biassing them to grip the bolt. A thin slice is cut from the nut in a plane perpendicular to the axis and is divided into two or more segments 4, Fig. 1, each connected to the rivet by a strip of spring steel 5 brazed &c. to the parts. In a modification, a ring 6, Fig. 4, fits on a spigot 1b on the nut and may be secured to the nut by screws. Lugs 6a on the ring are turned up and secured to the segments 4. In a further form, the segments are secured to the nut by spring wire dowels.
