789,434. Winding toroidal coils. MICAFIL AKT.-GES. WERKE FUR ELEKTRO-ISOLATION & WICKLEREI-EINRICHTUNGEN. June 14, 1956 [June 23, 1955], No. 18405/56. Class 83 (4). A machine for winding closed ring cores with thick wire and having a wire storage ring which passes through the ring core and is driven, is characterized in that the wire storage ring has a radial groove for storing the wire in the form of an expanded spiral and the ring is provided on the inner side with a hole through which the wire is pulled from the ring during the winding process. Thick wire 4 in the form of a spiral is stored in a radial groove 3 of a storage ring 1 supported by and between plates 2, 2<SP>1</SP> which close the outside of groove 1. The ring 1 has a gap 8 and the plates 2, 2<SP>1</SP> a recess 9 to accommodate a core 7 to be wound, the ring 1 being rotated through the core 7 by gears 6 engaging teeth 5 in the ring. The gear teeth 5 may close the groove 3. Alternatively friction wheels or a chain-drive may rotate the ring 1. The wire 4 is withdrawn from the ring 1 through an inner hole 11 to pass between rubber linings 10 on the plates 2, 21 and a trap 12, or opposing spring- loaded rollers, to the core 7.
