Abstract

293,733. Courtaulds, Ltd., and Heaven, G. S. April 11, 1927. Bobbins for use in winding threads, filaments, and the like comprise longitudinal members L, each capable of restricted movement in a radial direction so that when the bobbin is rotated at a high speed, its effective circumference will, owing to the action of centrifugal force, become greater than the minimum circumference of the bobbin when stationarv. The tension on threads during winding and twisting is thus reduced when the bobbin becomes stationary and the bobbin is thus suitable for winding artificial silk of low denier which is liable to suffer when put under tension. The members L may be rods, four, six, or eight of which are used, movable radially in slots O and held in position by top and bottom plates M, N, the barrel G being grooved to receive the rods, or they may be segments carrying pins or other extensions projecting into slots in the flanges. The barrel G may be perforated to facilitate treatment of the threads with steam or other fluid.
