Abstract
713,912. Drying grain. HALLMAN, N. J. Aug. 27, 1952, No. 21568/52. Class 34(2) In the drying of grain which is preheated, passed through a sweating zone 4 and then through a drying zone 6 where it is permeated by warm air, the material in the sweating zone 4 is permeated by air which has passed through the drying zone and is at a temperature lower than that of the grain so that its surface temperature is reduced and moisture in the grain diffuses to the 'surface whilst the material in the following drying zone is permeated by air of a higher temperature to raise the grain surface temperature and evaporate the moisture. The grain passes downwardly through a column 1 having a preheating zone 2, and sweating zone 4, and after leaving the drying zone 6 enters. a cooling zone 8 where it meets atmospheric air drawn in by a fan 10. This air leaves the. zone by a duct 13 and duct 14, passes through a fan 15 and heater 16 to duct 17 and then to the preheating zone via duct 19 from where it is recirculated. Air also passes to the drying zone 6 via duct 18 and then, having been cooled, via duct 21 to the sweating zone 4 whence the moist air is discharged to the atmosphere via duct 22. Cooled, dried grain is discharged via vaned wheel 9. The column 1 is divided into the zones by constricted portions 3, 5, 7.
