Abstract
In the preparation of cyclized rubber by the action of sulphuric acid on an aqueous rubber dispersion, the dispersion is stabilized by the addition of a tertiary amine prepared from long chain fatty amines by condensation with ethylene oxide, said amines behaving as cationic agents in an acid medium, in an amount less than 2.5 per cent. on the dry rubber content. In examples latex stabilized with the cationic amine with the optional addition of formic acid is treated with 98 per cent. sulphuric acid in two portions and the temperature raised to 100-105 DEG C., after cooling the cyclized rubber may be flocculated by pouring into sodium cetyl sulphate solution.
