Abstract
Synthetic rubber compositions of improved tensile strength after vulcanization include finely-divided alumina monohydrate as a filler. The filler may be prepared by grinding natural bauxites containing the monohydrate, or by heat-treatment of alumina trihydrate (see Group III). A mixture consists of butadienestyrolene copolymer, zinc oxide, pine tar, stearic acid, sulphur, benzothiazyl disulphide, tetramethylthiuram disulphide, and alumina monohydrate. Specification 663,459, [Group III], is referred to.ALSO:Finely-divided alumina monohydrate, for use as a filler in rubber or like plastic compositions (see Groups IV (a) and V), is prepared by heating alumina trihydrate in an autoclave at 120 DEG -250 DEG C in the presence of water or an aqueous solution of sodium aluminate, sulphuric acid, hydrochloric acid, acetic acid, or aluminium sulphate. The alumina trihydrate may be obtained according to Specification 663,459.
