Classes 120(2) and 142(1) A thread-tensioning device comprises two surfaces or two sets of surfaces between which a thread can pass combined with a guide for the thread mounted at the free end of a cantilever spring which urges one surface or one set of surfaces towards the other surface or set of surfaces so that changes in tension of the thread which has passed between the two surfaces or sets of surfaces and then over the guide, vary the pressure of the spring on such surface or surfaces to make compensating changes in the thread tension. As shown a support block 1 carries a pigtail guide 2 and a channel frame 3 on which are mounted two pins 4 and 5. The pin 4 supports a pretensioning device 6 of normal construction and the pin 5 supports an automatic compensating tensioning device 7. The upper disc 7a is fixed to an adjusting knob 8 and the lower disc 7b bears against cantilever spring 9 fixed to the frame 3 by screws 10. A wad of damping grease 13 is placed between spring 9 and frame 3 and the spring 9 has a V-shaped guide 12 at its free end. Increase of tension in thread 15 at the output side of the device causes the spring 9 to be depressed and relievethe pressure on the lower disc 7b thus compensating for the increase in tension in the thread. The lower disc 7b may be mounted directly on the spring 9 and the double disc tensioning device 7 may be replaced by a gate-type of tensioning device. Instead of grease 13 other damping means, e.g. a dash-pot may be provided. Specification 2798/14, [Class 120(ii)], is referred to.
