Abstract

808,133. Tensioning devices. BRITISH NYLON SPINNERS Ltd. March 1, 1957 [March 3, 1956], No. 6745/56. Class 120(2). A thread tensioning device comprises a lower and a plurality of upper thread contacting surfaces, the upper surfaces being provided by a plurality of cylindrical members, together or in groups, capable of rotation about horizontal axes and adapted to impose a gradually increasing tension on the thread during passage through the device, and the lower surface being plane. As shown, a plate 1 carries spacing pins between which are laid cylinders 11, 13, 15. Side walls 17 prevent axial movement of the cylinders and end walls 19, 19<SP>1</SP> have apertures 21, 21<SP>1</SP> for passage of yarn 23 between the cylinders and the plate 1. The device may be pivoted about a horizontal axis to vary the tension in the yarn, and as shown is tilted with the left end lower than the right. For ease of threading yarn the walls 17, 19 may have a box member which carries the spacing pins and has a centre portion cut away to allow the bottom plate to protrude therethrough and to contact the exposed cylinders.
