Abstract

738,169. Yarn tensioning devices. BRITISH CELANESE, Ltd. Sept. 28, 1953 [Sept. 30. 1952], No. 24449/52. Classes 120(2) and 142(1). A yarn passes between a lower disc 14 and an upper disc 45 which tends to be rotated by the running yarn, the discs having a mating groove and rib 16, 17 so that the tension in the yarn lifts the upper disc ; the yarn engages a pulley 42 on a sleeve 40, causing it to rotate faster than the disc 45 so that a helical groove 48 co-operating with a pin 49 on the disc lifts the disc still further, whereby the greater the tension in the yarn, the less it is increased by the tension device. When the yarn stops moving, it is gripped by the upper disc dropping under its own weight, thereby maintaining tension in the yarn on the output side of the device.
