Abstract
440,628. Tensioning driving-bands. JACKSON, L. MELLERSH-, 28, Southampton Buildings, Chancery Lane, London.-(Smith, W. H.; Cornwall, New York, U.S.A.) Aug. 8, 1935, No. 22425. [Class 80 (i)] [See also Group IX] In tensioning devices more particularly for the driving-bands 4 of the spindles 2 of a twisting - machine, the tension is applied by pulleys 12 supported on pivoted yokes 16 and pressed into action by springs 27, or other yielding means. When a band 4 is moved from the live pulley 1 to a dead pulley 5, or vice versa, by the fork 6, a lug 7 on the flange of the pulley 1 moves the band with a sudden flexure so that the band jerks the tension pulleys into alignment with its new position. Preferably the pulley 12 has sidewise play in its bearings, to allow for the bodily movement of that part of the band which it engages.
