Abstract

715,942. Yarn tensioning devices. SPECIALTIES DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Nov. 28, 1950 [March 28, 1950], No. 29119/50. Classes 120(2) and 142(1) [Also in Group VIII] A yarn tensioning device comprises two discs pressed together by a spring, and an arm which when moved in one direction by variation of yarn tension, rotates a screw to raise one disc from the other. The yarn is threaded through an eye 24 in a shield 22, then passes between discs 11, 12 mounted on a bushing 36 in a base 10, and through an eye 13 on an arm 15. The arm 15 is secured to a collar 69 on a screw 65 and, when the arm is turned, the screw raises or lowers the disc 11. A leaf spring 14 presses the discs together and the initial pressure between the discs can be adjusted by rotating the bushing 36 by its knurled rim 42. A spring 16, having its inner end secured to the collar 69 and its outer end attached to a knob 70 moving in a slot 19 resists movement of the arm 15. This resistance can be adjusted by movement of the knob which also adjusts the force exerted by the leaf spring 14 through an arm 79 and a cam member 76 engaged by a screw 61 passing through the spring.
