Abstract
683,928. Yarn tensioning devices. SPECIALTIES DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION. Nov. 28, 1950 [Dec. 30, 1949], No. 29066/50. Class 120(ii) A yarn tensioning device comprises a pair of relatively movable members for receiving yarn therebetween, means for causing one of said members to be urged towards said other member, control means operably responsive to the output tension of the yarn, means for resisting operation of said control means, and means operated by said control means for causing one of said members to move away from said other member. As shown a tensioning device generally comprises two pairs of discs mounted on a body member 10, a guide 11 and a control arm 14. The lower disc 24 of each pair is carried on a disc 32 fitted over a boss 18 on a shelf 17 of the base member 10. Each upper disc 25 is mounted on a collar 36 telescoped over a sleeve portion 34 of the disc 32 and is urged towards the lower disc by a pressure bar 56 under the action of a spring 48 on a depending arm 61 of the bracket member 60. The arm 64 of the bracket 60 has a projection 67 at its lower end which extends into a special groove 69 in the face of the casing member 51 abutting the rear face of the body member 10 whereby rotation of this casing member raises or lowers the bracket member 60 and so adjusts the loading of spring 48. Each upper disc 25 is adapted to be moved away from the respective lower disc to relieve the tension applied to the yarn, by a pin 37 extending through an aperture 20 and engaging the under side of the upper disc. Movement of the pins 37 is effected by the control arm 14 in response to the tension in the yarn as it passes through the guide 38 at the free end of the control arm, through the medium of the screw 45 which engages a bar 49 the ends of which are in contact with the pins 37. Movement of the control arm 14 is opposed by a flat spiral spring 50 housed within the casing 51 the outer end of the spring being attached to the casing member in an adjustable manner and the inner end being connected to a disc 54 secured to a shaft 42 which has a block 40 keyed to it, the control arm 14 being attached to said block. Initial setting of the discs is effected by adjusting the screw 45 and output tension of the yarn can be adjusted by rotating the casing member 51 which adjusts, simultaneously, the loading of the spring 48 and also the torque acting to resist downward movement of the free end of the arm 14.. Specification 651,549 is referred to.
