Abstract

555,064. Tensioning thread. COURTAULDS, Ltd., and WHOLTON, F. Jan. 29, 1942, No. 1227. [Class 120 (ii)] [Also in Group VIII] A device for tensioning a running thread while being wound from a cake B on to a cone K, or while being wound from a cone and being delivered to the needles of a knitting-machine, comprises two fixed guides C, H, only and between them two movable guides D, E, only : the guides D, E are attached to a member, e.g. a disc F, which is free to rotate about an axis G and are arranged one on each side of the axis while means, e.g. a weighted arm M, is attached to the member F to cause it to rotate about the axis so as to increase the length of the path along which the thread moves in contact with the guides D, E. The disc F may be hollow and contain a loose stabilising ball P.
