Abstract

A solution for brightening the surfaces of aluminium or its alloys, copper or its alloys, or steel consists of 31.25-57.1 per cent. phosphoric anhydride, 11.5-38.3 per cent. anhydrous sulphuric acid, 12-21.9 per cent. anhydrous nitric acid and 11.3-37 per cent. water; it may also contain .75-2.25 per cent. of compounds of chromium, aluminium, zinc, cobalt, manganese, nickel or iron or mixtures thereof, e.g. chromic acid or iron phosphate. The solution may be used at 170-250 DEG F.
