Abstract

A waterproof, electrically-insulating composition suitable for protecting high tension parts comprises a non-drying oil, a resinous material dissolved in the oil and a filler wherein the filler is substantially completely saturated by the oil and the resinous material consists at least in part of a resin derived from pine wood which is substantially insoluble in cold petroleum hydrocarbons and the resinous material and the oil constituting together between 25 and 45 per cent. of the composition by weight. Preferably the filler is partly of a fibrous nature such as asbestos and partly non-fibrous such as French chalk. In examples the composition comprises French chalk, lithopone, asbestos fibre, blown castor oil, “Vinsol” (Registered Trade Mark) resin, with the optional addition of lime hardened rosin.
