428,873. Fireproofing; waterproofing. I. G. FARBENINDUSTRIE AKT.- GES., Frankfort-on-Main, Germany. Nov. 21, 1933, No. 32500. Convention date, Nov. 22, 1932. [Class 140] Organic fibrous material such as wool, cotton, silk, paper, and wood is fireproofed and rendered waterproof by impregnation with mixtures of non-inflammable wax-like chlorinated hydrocarbons such as chlorinated naphthalene and chlorinated diphenyl and non-inflammable chlorinated lacquer-forming high molecular hydrocarbons such as chlorinated rubber and polyvinylchloride. Waxes such as ozokerite, resins such as colophony, sulphur, paraffin oil and pitch residues from tar distillation may be added to the wax-like component and plasticizers such as tricresylphosphate and stabilizers such as phenoxypropene oxide may be added to the lacquer-forming component. The impregnation of cotton, silk, or paper covered wire by immersion in the molten mixture is described.
