Plastic compositions containing fibres and bituminous or resinous materials.-A composition for use as a shoe-filler consists of non-felted fibres and bituminous or resinous material in such proportions that the composition is tough, resilient, and pliable at ordinary temperatures but becomes plastic at 200-400‹ F. Suitable bituminous binders are stearin pitch and blown or steam-distilled asphalts obtained from Mexican and semiasphaltic petroleums. Resinous materials, brought to a proper consistency by the addition of oils, may be used either alone or mixed with bitumen. The fibres are of short length and may be of any kind, such as asbestos, wood pulp, rag fibres, wool, or hair. Suitable proportions of fibres are 10-30 per cent by volume, 17.6 per cent being indicated in two examples.
