Abstract

711,101. Air-break switches. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. June 18, 1952 [Aug. 13; 1951], No. 15387/52. Class 38(5) [Also in. Group XXXVI] In a disconnect switch having a rotatable contact blade, the line terminal is arranged on a conducting member mounted co-axially with the blade, the terminal and conducting member being formed with co-axial races receiving a number of conducting balls. The blade 16 is secured to a socket 17 having a flange 20 mounted on the rotatable operating insulator 13 and an upwardly-directed guide pin 27 upon which the line terminal 30 is mounted. The latter has a hub portion 31 having oppositely-sloping faces 32, 33 serving as faces for the balls 26, 35 which are urged into close engagement with pin 27 by a spring 37. The balls thus support the terminal and electrically connect it to the blade. The free end of the latter has a flat tip portion 53 attached to it by a ball-and-socket connection 51, 52 allowing limited movement between the blade.and the tip. The latter enters sideways between lips 71, Fig. 6, into a housing 64 containing contact members 65, 66 which are urged together by springs 69, 70. The members 65, 66 engage opposite faces of tip 53 and of a fixed terminal bar 60 secured to the top of the fixed insulator 19.
