[Class 38 (v).] High - tension switches; arc-rupturing devices.-A socket contact comprises a housing 101, between a shoulder 103 of which and a retaining ring 104 are circularly-stacked laminµ 105, preferably of copper, the inner edges of which are radial to, and contact with, a plug contact 106 (Fig. 2), whereas the outer edges bear on the housing 101. In the case of large contacts, phosphor-bronze or steel laminµ 108 may alternate with laminµ 105. As applied to main contacts of the switches described in Specifications 392,926 and 392,930, the laminµ 105 are arranged in the enlarged arc mouth 101 of the housing 21 and co-operate with a part of the movable plug contact 109 which is of larger diameter than the tip 5, which is threaded at 110 into the plug 109. Four ducts 111 permit the free circulation of oil, as shown by the chain-dotted line, whereas in opening the circuit, when the parts reach the chain-dotted position shown, the incipient arc is quenched by the flow of oil round the tip 5, as shown by full-line arrows.
