Abstract

1330259 High current switches; contact members for switches AUTOMATIC SWITCH CO 22 Dec 1971 [29 Jan 1971] 59576/71 Heading H1N In a switch having fixed and moving contacts, one of the contacts is a blade member 36 and the co-operating contact comprises a pair of side-byside rollers 52 between which the blade engages when the switch is closed, the rollers being bullet-shaped, having tapered ends, and being urged towards each other by resilient means 63. In the arrangement shown, the blade member 36 and the rollers 52 are the primary moving and fixed arcing contacts of a switch having main current carrying contacts 19, 43 and secondary arcing contacts 26, 48. The rollers 52 are held on shafts by internal spring clips (not shown), the shafts being carried on arms 51 pivotally mounted on a post 45 and biased towards each other by springs 63, 69. The moving contacts 19, 36 are adjustably mounted on a pivoted arm 12 carried by a shaft 11. The secondary moving arcing contact 26 extends into a cutout portion of the contact 19 and is biased by a blade spring (not shown). Current flows in the arms 51 in the same direction so that there is electrodynamic reinforcement of the contact pressure between the rollers 52 and the blade member 36.
