Abstract

614,798. Arc-rupturing in switches. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. July 30, 1946, No. 22706. Convention date, July 31, 1945. [Class 38 (v)] A switch has fixed resilient contacts 15 mounted on base plates 12 having recesses for the contact-reinforcing springs 15<1> and fixed in grooves of insulating side plates 10. A slidable insulating carrier 20 guided by grooves in the side plates 10 carries contact rollers 23 loosely mounted on inclined bearings 24 held by projections 27 extending into the carrier. As the switch opens the final break occurs at the centre of the contacts 15 and the mutual repulsion between the arcs causes them to bow outwards and to be deionised and extinguished by spaced metallic plates 28 which may be magnetic.
