Abstract
617,731. Mechanical switches. HINDS, R. P. H. Oct. 28, 1946, No. 31899. [Class 38 (v)] In a push-pull switch the longitudinal movement of the operating bolt 8 moves a bridging contact 12 laterally by means of an insulating bushing 15 and a steel ball 10, which engages in two annular grooves of different depths in the bolt. In the " on " position as shown, the steel ball engages in the deeper of the two grooves and a spring 13 forces the contact 12 down to bridge a pair of fixed contacts 11, whilst in the " off " position the steel ball rests in the shallower groove and holds the contacts open. The Provisional Specification states also that the spring may engage a screw-cap closing the recess 14, and the body may be formed in one piece instead of the two pieces shown.
