Abstract
568,972. Tumbler switches. ALLDAY & SON (1922), Ltd., H., and BAIN, R. Nov. 25, 1943, No. 19721. [Class 38 (v)] A quick-make, slow-break switch comprises a tumbler lever, the side limbs d<1> of which are slotted to provide an arcuate track g<1> concentric with the lever-pivot d<5>, along which track a roller contact e is slidable under the action of a dead-centre spring h, into and out of engagement with one or more fixed contacts b. In moving from the position shown, the speed of the contact e initially depends on the operator, but when the spring h crosses the dead-centre, by which time the lever is near its opposite extreme position against the base a, a rapid movement of the contact follows. In Fig. 3, the track g<1> is formed in the lower edges of the side limbs d', and the fixed anchorage j of the spring h engages slots i in the limbs d<1> to limit the travel of the lever.
