Abstract
710,927. Smallarms. SCHWEIZERISCHE INDUSTRIE-GES. Oct. 2, 1952 [May. 5, 1952], No. 24737/52. Class 119. A light automatic firearm has a reciprocating barrel 3 and a fixed breech-block 4, means for locking the barrel in the rear position until the projectile has left the firearm, and a muzzle brake 7 on an actuator 8 which latter is movable relative to the barrel and co-operates with it. In the construction shown, the locking means consists of a lever 14 pivoted on the barrel and engaging a shoulder 15 on the fixed casing 1, the lever being held downwards by a part 21 of the actuator. A slight pull on the trigger 32 for single shot firing, or an extended pull for continuous firing, withdraws a sear 37 to release the firing pin 6 in the breech-block 4. When the bullet from the leading round 26<SP>1</SP> leaves the firearm, the gases acting on the muzzle brake pull the latter forwards against the action of a spring 10, and when a shoulder 22 of the actuator engages a shoulder 23 on the barrel, the barrel also moves forwards. During these movements the part 21 of the actuator has moved clear of the locking lever 14 and has depressed the front arm 40 of a lever 17 whose rear arm 41 is thereby lifted to engage and free the locking lever. The forward motion of the actuator is limited by a shoulder 43 on the casing 1, and that of the barrel by the engagement of the lever 14 with the rear face of the actuator. When the parts return under the action of the spring 10 a fresh round 26, which has been moved upwards by the magazine spring 27, is in a position to engage in the chamber 31. During the return stroke a groove 39 in the actuator permits the lever 17 to return to its initial position, and a wedge face 20 on the actuator depresses the lever to the locking position.
