Abstract
710,917. Lampholders. SMART & BROWN (ENGINEERS), Ltd. May 7, 1953, [May 16, 1952.] No. 12456/52. Class 38(1). [Also in Group XI] A mounting for an elongated electric lamp 2 comprises a structure 33 carrying a pair of lampholder assemblies adapted to receive the ends of the lamp, at least one of the assemblies comprising a contact carrier 4 disposed within a holder 1 and movable against a spring 8 relative to the holder in a direction away from the other lampholder assembly, the holder having a hooked portion 20 which projects through an opening 23 in the carrying structure 33 and fastens the holder to the structure when a lamp is in position in the mounting, removal of the holder from the structure being effected by moving the holder towards the other assembly against the action of the spring 8 to enable the hooked portion 20 to be withdrawn from the opening. The hook portion 20 is of double-walled structure and has notches 24 which are engaged by a projection 27 on a leaf spring 25 secured to the carrying structure. The contact carrier 4 is of cylindrical form and has an annular recess 7 at its forward end for receiving one end of the spring 8, the other end of the spring bearing against a spider 9 provided at the closed end of the holder. Two contact pins 16 are carried by a rocker arm 14 mounted on a pivot pin 13 extending across a rear well 11 in the carrier, the pins extending loosely through holes in a transverse wall into a forward well 10 for receiving the lamp end. Inclined surfaces 18 are formed in the forward well 10 to guide locating pins on the lamp into recesses 19. The insertion of the lamp is facilitated by the fact that the contact carrier is rotatable within the holder. Outward movement of the contact carrier is prevented by a lug 9A projecting inwards from the wall of the holder 1. The electric leads extend from the contact carrier into the structure 33 and a spring operated reel may be provided to take up the slack of the leads.
