709,812. Hectographic master sheets. BLOCK & ANDERSON, Ltd. April 29, 1952 [May 7, 1951], No. 10726/51. Class 100 (2) A master-sheet for hectographic printing is prepared by the steps of producing an inkreceptive image of the matter to be printed on a normally ink-repellant printing surface, inking up the ink-receptive image by rolling on an adhesive fluid material attracted only by the image portions of the printing surface, transferring an image by contact pressure from the inked-up surface to a sheet of art-surfaced paper and applying to said transferred image on the art surfaced paper a heavy coating of a spirit soluble hectographic transfer material. This coating may be applied either by pressing a sheet of hectographic carbon paper against the adhesive image or by dusting the image with hectographic carbon dust. Alternatively the adhesive fluid material applied to the ink-receptive image may contain hectographic transfer material, which is transferred by pressure directly to the art-surfaced paper to be used as a master sheet. In a modification the ink-receptive image is inked with adhesive fluid, e.g. lithographic ink, and to this image is applied a sheet of hectographic carbon to leave a coating which is transferred to the paper sheet as before. The inkreceptive image may be produced upon a ferrogelatine printing surface by applying thereto an undeveloped blue-print or it may be produced on a lithographic printing surface photolithographically or by hand. Alternatively the inkreceptive image is produced on a printing surface by means of a fluid material applied through a silk-screen or wax stencil.
