Abstract

709,728. Thermionic valves. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES. May 4, 1951 [May 6, 1950], No. 10568/51. Class 39(1) In a magnetically controlled electronic valve in which one or more strip-like electron beams emanating from a longitudinally extended cathode impinge at will in dependence on a magnetic field either on one or more anodes or on auxiliary electrodes, the auxiliary electrodes, allocated to each electron beam are formed as surfaces which are substantially parallel to one another and are arranged substantially parallel to the direct path from the cathode to the anode. In one arrangement, Fig. 1, there is provided a cathode 1, two anodes 2 and 3 which are preferably connected together and may be at a potential of 300 volts, and two auxiliary electrodes 4 and 5 which are also preferably connected together and may be at a positive potential of about 5 volts. Electrons normally flow mainly to the anodes, but upon application of a magnetic field perpendicular to the plane of the drawing electrons are directed mainly or entirely towards the auxiliary electrodes. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), there are four anodes and four auxiliary electrodes arranged in the form of a cross, and control rods are provided between the cathode and the auxiliary electrodes.
