Abstract

888,883. Magnetrons. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Jan. 13, 1960 [Dec. 4, 1958], No. 39181/58. Class 39(1) An electron discharge device has a first electrode 1 and a second electrode 2 across which there is a potential gradient and a magnetic field perpendicular to the direction of movement of the electrons and to the electric field between the electrodes the cathode means comprising a plurality of cathodes 3, 4, 5 operated at different potentials which are such that the electrons in the different layers remain in step relative to first electrode 1. For a linear magnetron the potential differences between each cathode and the field potential corresponding to that electron stream are equal so that all streams of electrons have the same longitudinal velocity. The cathodes 3, 4, 5 may be at about the same radius as shown or at different radii. If at about the same radius beam directing electrodes 6, 7 direct the streams to the different radii.
