Abstract
835,023. Velocity-modulated tubes. COMPAGNIE FRANCAISE THOMSON-HOUSTON. July 13, 1956 [July 13, 1955], No. 21753/56. Class 39(1). In a klystron, the active surface of the anode or target electrode is increased in area, by the provision thereon of grooves divided into two or three groups angularly disposed relative to one another to form pyramidal denticles on the surface. This allows greater amounts of electron bombardment before surface melting of the anode occurs. Preferably the anode is such that the base lines of the denticles are approximately normal to the direction 6 of electron flux at the point of impact. For example, the denticular surface 2 may be arranged step-wise round the interior of an anode block 1. The denticles are of millimetric dimensions, and the external surface of the anode may be cooled by known methods.
