Abstract

1294436 Electron-beam irradiation apparatus MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 7 June 1971 [8 June 1970] 19192/71 Heading H1D An electron-beam irradiation apparatus comprises an elongate cathode 23 and control 24, Fig. 3, disposed opposite an electron transmissive window 27, the electron path being surrounded by cylindrical electrodes 25 maintained at increasing potentials. Preferably the electrodes 25 and the casing 26 are rectangular in section (Fig. 4, not shown), and the electrodes 25 may be spaced by ceramic blocks 28 and sealed by an epoxy adhesive. In one example using two electrodes 25 the beam may be accelerated to 200 kV. and the apparatus has dimensions of 2500 x 250 x 250 mm.; if further acceleration electrodes are added the apparatus may be used at 500 kV.
