Abstract

1331032 X-ray tubes E-G ALEXANDROVICH N V BELKIN K F ZELENSKY M A KANUNOV A A RAZIN L V TARASOVA A P TOROPOV I A TROSHKIN L N KHUDY. AKOVA V A TSUKERMAN N A DRON G N SLOEVA J K IOFFE and V V VASILEIV 5 Jan 1972 447/72 Heading H1D An X-ray tube has two electrodes 2, 3 each of which is provided with means 4, 5 for effecting field emission so that X rays can be generated at either of the electrodes. In one form, Fig. 1, (not shown) the electrodes 2, 3 have opposed faces slanting in opposite directions with field emission electrodes at the centre of each face. In the case of Figs. 2 and 3 the electrode 2 is made of material such as beryllium or aluminium which is transparent to X-rays emitted from either of the electrodes, thus making the emission of X-rays directional. A thin coating 13 of a metal of high atomic number, e.g. rhenium is provided on electrode 2. The tube is filled with helium or hydrogen.
