Abstract

708,803. Forming fibre webs. BURESH, F. M., and CURLATOR CORPORATION. April 21. 1949 [May 11, 1948], No. 10666/49. Class 120(1) A machine for forming a fibre web by means similar to that described in Specification 632,226 includes arrangements for limiting the generation of static electricity in the fibres. The air stream is circulated in a closed. path 108, 106, 105, 110, 112, 55 by a fan 100 and raw material may be fed to the toothed rotor 45 by a foraminous conveyer 31 in a hopper 23 as described in Specification 708,839. The material passes over rollers 25 and is evenly distributed over the conveyer 31 by air passing through it into a suction duct 32. The hopper may be removed for replacement by a roll holder for cotton, picker lap. In one arrangement for removing static, a tube 146 containing a U-bend 23 leads from the fan discharge to the fan inlet. The U- bend contains a heater 125 and a thermometer 130, the latter being connected to a thermostat controlling air supply to a spray injector 145. Rise in temperature above a predetermined level, of air in the system causes water to be injected into the main air stream. In alternative arrangements (not shown), steam may be introduced into the air stream on the upstream side of the rotor 45; high voltage alternating current discharge points may be located on the downstream or on both sides of the rotor 45, or a radio-active bar may extend across the air stream on the up-stream side of the rotor.
