706,953. Flying cut-off saws. MASCHINENFABRIK MEER AKT.-GES. Jan. 21. 1952 [.Tan. 22, 1951; March 17, 1951], No. 1704/52. Class 145 (2) A circular saw for cutting continuously moving stock into predetermined lengths, comprises a carriage reciprocated backwards and forwards in a direction parallel to the length of the stock, on a moving carriage which is driven by a reversible variable-speed motor acting through a rack and pinion, or a screw spindle and nut connection. In the embodiment shown, the pinion 13 is driven by a variable speed reversing electric motor and meshes with a rack 12 which is secured to the carriage 9. This latter is carried on wheels 11 for reciprocation at the same speed as the stock, and the saw 1, driven by motor 3, is fed on to the work by means of a lever, one arm of which carries the saw and the other arm of which carries a follower which slides in the camguide 7. If desired, more than one carriage can be provided so that two or more lengths are cut simultaneously, which thus enables small lengths to be cut off. The spacing of the carriages may be varied to vary the length obtained..
