Abstract

922,095. Gear-finishing. H. HURTH, and F. HURTH. May 24, 1960 [Sept. 17, 1959], No. 18237/60. Class 83 (3). [Also in Group XXIV] A gear-shaving machine having a vertically - adjustable tool carrier comprises a guide 13 which can be clamped in an angularly-adjustable position and which carries means for relatively traversing the gear and tool, thus allowing the gear teeth to be tapered. The work 11 is rotated by an electric motor 8 or at a lower speed by a motor 9, the headstock 7 containing variable-speed gearing. The headstock is carried on a bed 6 secured to a bed 12 carrying the guide 13 on a pivot 14. Change-speed gearing 17 together with fast and feed traverse motors, or an hydraulic drive, traverse a slide 16 on the guide 13. A tool carrier 18 is movable transversely on the slide 16 by a motor or a hand wheel 19. A fine feed for the tool 21 is provided by a motor or a hand wheel 20, the tool head 36 being pivotally carried on the carrier 18. The carrier includes means 22 for carrying an operator, a switch board 23 and means for indicating the movements of the slide 16. The guide 13 is ad-, justed about the pivot 14 by a screw 24, Fig. 4 engaging a pivoted nut 25, the guide being then clamped by spring or hydraulic means operated by a piston 29 advanced manually through screw means 30. The machine is controlled by an elongated cam 34 engaging switches 35 on the slide 16, which may control movements of the screw 24. A gear may be produced having teeth which are tapered at one angle from the tip and at a smaller angle towards the centre. In a modification, the work mounting is angularly adjustable instead of the guide 13.
