931,593. Gear-finishing. H. HURTH, and F. HURTH. May 24, 1960 [Sept. 24, 1959], No. 18238/60. Class 83 (3). A gear shaving machine comprises a horizontal work-spindle, a tool driven by the workpiece and having its axis adjustable in a vertical plane on a head-stock 18, and separate drives for a coarse and a fine feed of the tool. The work 11 is rotated by a slow-motion drive 9 or an electric motor 8 driving through changespeed and/or variable-speed gearing. A carriage 16 is traversed on a pivoted mounting 13 through change-speed and/or variable-speed gearing by separate fast and low-speed motors or by an hydraulic feed. The tool headstock 18 can be coarsely fed to the work by a nut 21 and screw 20 either of which may be rotated through a hand wheel 29, a clutch 26 and a worm 27 or an electric motor 22 and gearing 25 controlled from an operator's platform 31 on the carriage 16 or by dogs on the mounting 13 engaging switches on the carriage 16. The slide can be moved against a fixed stop, at which time the clutch 26 or worm 27 moves to actuate a stop-switch. A screw adjusts a tool head 33 angularly on the headstock 18. Surrounding the tool-spindle 36 is an eccentric sleeve 37, Fig. 4, which can be rotated, for the fine feed of the tool, by a hand wheel 43 or an electric motor 46 driving through a clutch 47, play being eliminated by a spring 48. The feed is indicated by a dial 50.
