Abstract

782,312. Copy-milling; copy-turning; copyplaning; cutting by spark-erosion. SICOMATIC AKT.-GES. July 7, 1955 [July 9, 1954], No. 19699/55. Classes 83 (3) and 83 (4). [Also in Group XXIII] A milling, turning, shaping or spark-erosion machine for profiling three-dimensionally curved workpieces 7 from drawings 20, comprises means 4, 5 for mounting a work-holder 6, 8 for horizontal and vertical movement relatively to the tool 23, a flexible tape 28 connecting the work-holder to a shaft 31 upon which the tape may be wound, a bar 44 carrying a follower 63 the bar and shaft being connected by a second tape 34 to reciprocate the bar laterally, a third tape 54 connecting a second shaft 56 to a slide 51 moving the tool 23 in a direction at right-angles to the horizontal movement of the work-holder, and a fourth tape 59 connecting second shaft 56 to said bar 44 to move the bar longitudinally. The drawing 20 is mounted on a table 19 rotated by a hand wheel 26 which through jointed shafts 16, 14 also rotates the chuck 6. The chuck-slide 5 moves horizontally on a vertically-movable slide 3 and has attached thereto a bracket 9 carrying a rod 11. A slider 27 to which the tape 28 is attached may be free to slide, or be fixed, on the rod 11. When the slider 27 is free, the horizontal movements of the workpiece accord with the movements of the follower 63 around the drawing 20 representing a transverse section of the work. Rotation of a controlling handle 49 causes rotation of a pulley 33 to take up the tape 34 and pull a block 46 along a fixed rod 47. The block 46 slidably carries the rod 44. The rod 44 slides at 45 on a rod 42, carried on two members 41 sliding on fixed rods 39. The rotation of the pulley 33 and thus the shaft 31 also takes up the tape 28 to move the chuck laterally in a ratio determined by the diameters of the pulley 33 and the shaft 31. Thus, lateral movement of the follower is reflected in lateral movement of the chuck if the slider 27 is free on its rod 11. If, however, the slider is fixed to the rod 11 and the chuck locked, the chuck moves up and down as the follower moves laterally, the drawing 20 then being of a vertical section. The in-and-out movement of the follower is conveyed to the tool 23 via the rod 44, sliding members 41, a rod 43, the tape 59, pulleys 58 and 55 (again in a desired ratio of reproduction), the tape 54 and the tool slide. The in-and-out movement may be performed by an automatic or hand feed of the tool in the direction P3.
